Corporate Wellness through Eating Solutions

Food is the fuel which keeps the body alive. It provides the essential nutrients that the body needs not just for fitness, well being and zestful energy but for life itself!

Putting across the significance of food and nutrition in our lives, the above statement reinforces the need to understand nourishment and impact of eating habits on health in a wholesome manner.  Life depends upon many body reactions, which are colloquially known as metabolism, and food provides the essential fuel for the effective functioning of the same.

However, with the increasing work load in the corporate world there has been an equal reduction in the emphasis laid on food habits by individuals.  Being starved for time and working up till late hours have forced people to eat quickly and during odd hours.  Also, as the number of working couples has escalated; the trend of eating out has picked up while the concentration on healthy eating has plummeted.  All this put together has had an adverse effect on the health of the people.  Stomach aches, anemia, malnutrition, heart diseases, obesity and the list, of diseases caused by improper eating habits, is endless.

Its impact on the corporate world is not hard to spot either.  The same old troubles of decreased efficiency, absenteeism, reduced motivation caused by the same old problem of poor eating habits.  It becomes imperative, in this case, for the corporate to build an in-house team of food experts who could guide the employees on better eating.  Such team of food experts, in more cases than none, should be the canteen staff of the company who feed the employees on a regular basis.  Training them on healthy food options and nutrition rich meals could considerably enhance the quality of food being made available for the staff thus culminating into higher motivation levels.

ABOUT EATFIT PROGRAMME

Developed by Dr. Meena Shah, the EATFIT programme addresses the food related issues of the working professionals of today.  Having worked on various such initiatives before, she recognizes the two most important functions of food and understands that the significance of none could be ignored.  It is important for food to provide pleasure and satisfaction while fulfilling the nutrient requirements of the body.  Keeping the same in mind she trains the canteen staff of the company on adding health items to the canteen menu, which are nutrient dense and lip smacking at the same time.  She believes that the traditional food habits of our country are nutrient enough and with some necessary changes in cooking practices of traditional times, one could generate a large collection of tasty and healthy recipes.    These recipes can also be coupled with some nutritional recipes from other countries to add variety.
